Cryptocurrency Wallets

A cryptocurreny wallet is a program or device that stores the public and private keys that are required not only to access ones funds, but to also cryptographically sign and prove ownership/transference of digital assets on the blockchain. In addition to the storage and use of these cryptographic keys, wallets also provide functionality to use a variety of services provided by the blockchain, including but not limited to sending messages, creating Smart Contracts/Non-fungible tokens, or encryption/signing of messages.

Cryptocurrency wallets, including Dero's, often utilize seed phrases, which are a random collection of dictionary words that allow for the regeneration of a lost private key. Because of how important the seed phrase is to the security of ones wallet, it is recommended to write down your seed phrase! Dero uses a 25 word seed phrase which will be displayed at the creation of your wallet, and can be printed at any time from within the wallet.

Dero Wallets

There are a total of three Dero wallets available to the community. All Dero Wallets Require Registration.

CLI (Command Line Interface) Wallet

The most basic and official wallet is the CLI wallet. It can be found here along with the rest of the official Dero suite of software. The CLI wallet has every function that one would need, and it is recommended to start with this wallet.

Usage:

To use the CLI wallet, one must run the executable binary from the command line/terminal. The process may be slightly different depending on your operating system, but in all cases, one must navigate to the folder containing the executable, and run it via the command line/terminal.

  • For Linux, ./dero-wallet-cli-linux-amd64
  • For Windows, dero-wallet-cli-windows-amd64.exe
  • For Mac, ./dero-wallet-cli-darwin

ENGRAM (Graphical) Wallet

The Engram wallet is the first graphical wallet to grace the Dero ecosystem, and can be found here. While at the time of writing this, it is still in alpha, it is more than usable for basic wallet tasks. Engram also includes a built-in miner (netrunner), a built in authentication system for dApps (Cyberdeck), and built-in services for accessing the nameservice smart contract and sending fully encrypted messages to other Dero users.

Usage:

To use Engram, one must simply download the precompiled binary and run the executable. The GUI is easy to use and understand, so setup should be very simple.

Web Wallet

The Web Wallet is as it sounds, a wallet that can be accessed via the website. While the website is convenient, registration time on the web wallet is much longer, and of course there are risks with doing financial dealings through a web browser. While the web wallet is convenient if you cant use the CLI or Engram wallet, it is recommended to use the CLI or Engram wallet whenever possible.

Usage:

Simply go to https://wallet.dero.io/ and click whichever service you want, likely opening or creating a wallet. The setup should be very simple and easy to follow.

Cold Wallet

Cold wallets are a term for valid wallet addresses that are generated offline, as to not expose private keys to anything but your own computers. For most blockchains, this is a relatively simple task, however since Dero wallets require registration, the process is slightly more complicated. The software and guide for this process can be found here.
